Why does my render's file size seem small?

I downloaded my latest full resolution h.264 render, but the file size seems small. Why is that?

The data rate for our encoding profile is higher than the data rate in the render. The reason is that end credits, which are mostly white and black pixels, compress extremely well, compared to say, photographic images.

A 4k h.264 render's file size can be in the megabytes range.

On the other hand, when you unzip a 4k DPX render, it won't be tiny. Size will depend on the length of the credits sequence. Unzipped, a 4k DPX image sequence can be hundreds of gigabytes.
