Uppercasing and McNames
By convention, end credits frequently render names and proper nouns in ALL CAPS. But you don't have to enter them into your project this way. In fact, we recommend that you use normal capitalization in your Credits Google Sheet, and control uppercasing using Endcrawl's font control.
How to control Uppercasing
In your project's Fonts section, pick the style you want to edit (e.g. Names). Then use the Auto UPPERCASE control to switch Uppercasing on or off.
What are "McNames"?
Endcrawl's uppercasing also takes special care when handling names or words with a mix of upper- and lowercase letters.
There are different terms for this: camelCase, PascalCase, or InterCaps. We've settled on the informal term McNames for one simple reason: it's easy to understand.
When Auto Uppercasing, Endcrawl offers the Preserve McNames feature, which will keep one or several letters lowercase. Examples:
- Barbara McClintock → BARBARA McCLINTOCK
- Catherine de Medici → CATHERINE de MEDICI
- Diane von Fürstenberg → DIANE von FÜRSTENBERG
- Juana Ines de la Cruz → JUANA INES de la CRUZ
Small Caps
You can also choose to render these "preserved" lowercase letters in Mcnames as Small Caps instead.
- Barbara McClintock → BARBARA McCLINTOCK
- Catherine de Medici → CATHERINE de MEDICI
- Diane von Fürstenberg → DIANE von FÜRSTENBERG
- Juana Ines de la Cruz → JUANA INES de la CRUZ
